Hasbrouck Heights, NJ, June 15, 1999 - PaperClip Incorporated., announced today a new Internet service called PaperClip Internet Express. PaperClip Internet Express (IE), as a new and unique "business to business" service provides trading partners, branch offices and field offices the ability to exchange electronic documents. For the first time, IE offers dissimilar Integrated Document Management (IDM) and workflow solutions the capability for seamless interpretability leveraging existing IDM interfaces. PaperClip Incorporated released its newest version of its popular IDM solution, PaperClip32 that seamlessly connects to IE and is included with the IE Service.
Mike Bridges of PaperClip Incorporated, said, "We are fortunate to have a product (IE) and a business in an emerging industry which plays to our strengths. This is a new era for document management and we feel that IE will expand rapidly across several targeted industries. The positive response we have had from customers and partners to the deployment of IE validates our strategic vision of the Internet, IDM and document exchange."
PaperClip Internet Express (IE) is an Internet based electronic document package delivery service. IE utilizes the open standard Electronic Document eXchange V 2.0 for packaging electronic objects (i.e., images, word processing, EDI) with their respective metadata. These EDX packages are then managed by the IE Virtual Private Network and IE Server Software for safe and reliable transport to their ultimate destination. IE provides a versatile "business to business" solution with a dramatic reduction in processing time and cost. PaperClip Internet Express is a unique service making efficient use of the Internet while creating interpretability for Integrated Document Management solutions.
"IE’s rapid success in the market is because it manages document exchange like an appliance," said Suzy Tuck, vice president of sales for PaperClip Incorporated. "IDM is maturing quickly and with large electronic document processing centers and repositories existing today in corporate America, customers want and need to send and receive electronic documents instead of paper. IE can connect IDM repositories and workflow solutions together much like EDI connects today." "
Internet Express is designed around the open standard Electronic Document eXchange version 2.0. The EDX standard was developed over a two-year period from industry partners and associations with a common goal, to exchange all sources of documents with any destination in a secure, efficient, standardized and open manner over the Internet. EDX to date has been adopted by the National Association of Independent Life Brokerage Agencies (NAILBA) Technology Committee and under consideration by several other industry technical standard bodies and committees. The EDX standard specifies the format of the four files required to create an EDX Package. It does not specify the software or platforms on which EDX will be implemented because it is an open standard. It does not specify the content of the document metadata being exchanged because the standard is independent of the data. EDX standard has two main elements, metadata and objects. The Document eXchange Data (DXD) file is required to exist within the EDX file in order for the EDX file to be a valid EDX transport package (the DXD file can also exist outside an EDX transport package). It specifies control information in its header and contains a record for each folder, document, or batch being created.
The Internet Express service is a unique "Meshed Store & Forward - Virtual Private Network" (MSF-VPN) designed to transport EDX V2.0 Packages. Taking the basics features of "Store & Forward" communication systems and integrating it with the Internet affords tremendous capabilities. This approach offers scalability by allowing the customer to pick the bandwidth necessary (T1 to a dial up 56-Kb modem) to handle their volume. The "Store & Forward" model provides a central location for IE Client customers to place data for automatic delivery to the recipient. IE Server customers benefit from a real time exchange of EDX Packages directly from other IE Servers while still receiving documents from the IE Central Office.
Internet Express’ many features include real time tracking of EDX Packages confirming delivery to recipient, metadata packing list for transport and archiving, accounting reports for internal distribution and an IDM Translator. The IDM Translator provides end point translations to specific exchange formats unique to IDM solutions. IDM Translators have been made available for FileNet, DST’s Automated Workflow Distributor (AWD), DocuPACT from Intertech, and PaperClip’s "Print on Receipt" solutions.
PaperClip’s latest release of PaperClip32 offers several enhancements designed to leverage its functionality with IE and become EDX Compliant. With seamless integration to IE, PaperClip32 Version 5.1 users now have adhoc or batch processing of electronic documents of any format to EDX packages for IE processing. Other enhancements include variable execution of stored queries, additional scanner support, and integration with KOFAX "Adrenaline" for production scanning features.
Internet Express is available as a subscription service worldwide. Based on a transactional fee, customers only pay for what they send. The fee starts at 25 cents for the first 50 kilobytes and declines on size of EDX Package. The IE Service has a minimum $75 monthly fee that is credited by user transactions. PaperClip as a promotion has waived the minimum monthly charge until October 1, 1999 for new subscribers. PaperClip also offers a free IE "Receive Only" Client. For those clients who only need to view an EDX package, a free EDX Viewer is available for download from the PaperClip website. Additional discounts are provided based on IE plan subscribed. Subscribers can also deploy PaperClip32 IDM software for just the cost of its annual Technology Assurance. IE Translator is one time charge of $2,500 plus Technology Assurance. Designed for the largest corporation to the smallest office, IE can automate any size organization and streamline the document process gaining efficiencies and realizing significant cost benefits.
